About Us
Worship Our Sunday morning worship is Presbyterian in format and is marked by prayers, music, Scripture reading and sermon, and the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of every month. We follow the ecumenical church calendar in observing the liturgical seasons of Adven, Lent, Pentecost, etc. Often there are special worship services during this time. The music program of the church includes choral music and handbell/chimes for both children and adults. In the music and liturgy of our services we strive for the best words and music we can use to honor God, from many different time periods, genres and cultures.
Education Christian Education has always been important at Canfield Presbyterian, and we offer Sunday Schoolfor all ages on Sunday mornings before worship. There are also classes and discussion groups at our Wednesday evening mid-week program called REACH. Children and youth have fellowship and learning groups as well and there are other Bible Studies and prayer groups that meet periodically.
Service Our church has a strong heritage of mission and helping others in need. We support over 50 programs locally and around the world through our mission giving. We also house Operation Blessing, which is a community food pantry that helps feed over 5000 people annually. The church also participates in hands-on mission through mission trips to reach out to those less fortunate than ourselves, and to share Christ’s love as we have been called to do.
Fellowship Throughout the year there are dinners and activities which help us to grow in our relationships to one another and to include newcomers to our family of faith. These range from dinners with entertainment to “field trips” to local sports arenas and entertainment venues. We also serve as a host for community activities such as First Night Canfield, a community-wide, family-friendly celebration on New Years’ Eve.
The leadership for the church is provided by the Session, an elected board of ordained officers that makes decisions for the whole church. The Deacons also are ordained officers who provide leadership in the areas of service and Pastoral Care for church members.
